"The Black Camel" 1931, with Warner Oland as Honolulu's famous detective Charlie Chan and Bela Lugosi (who will go on to become Dracula.) Most special about this 1931 feature movie (shown at right playing in Honolulu's old- and since restored Hawaii Theatre) was that most of the scenes were filmed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki and around Honolulu. Charlie Chan, based upon the exploits of a real Chinese-American Honolulu detective (but greatly embellished in the Chan films) was also the prototype of many modern cop and detective TV shows.
